Description of the WEINBACH 161 grand piano

Rim
The inner and outer rim is laminated molding from several layers of plywood. Total thickness of side wall of piano is 58 mm. The solid construction of the rim of the Weinbach 161 grand piano ensures good tuning and action regulation stability.

Frame posts
The rim is reinforced by 3 longitudinal spokewise placed solid posts and 1 crosswise post between the left longitudinal post and bass side. They are made from solid soft wood, beech veneered. This construction provides sufficient rigidity and stability of the frame, it supports tuning and action regulation stability.

Legs
The legs are made from solid wood. The robust legs ensure a good stability of the instrument whilst being played dynamically.

Iron plate
The plate is made from gray cast iron casted to the wet sand, hand worked surfaced, machine drilled, lacquered.

Hardware, fittings
Solid brass, sanded.

Pinblock
The pinblock is made from special beech plywood type Multiplex. The pinblock is well resistant against climatic changes and it provides equal torque of tuning pins and good tuning stability.

Soundboard
The soundboard is made from European quarter sawn spruce wood, it´s spruce veneered. Its thickness is 10 mm. The sounboard is well resonating in all the frequencies over the whole acoustic range of the piano.

Ribs
The ribs are made from European spruce, their ends are lightened. The straight cross rib (cutoff bar) is made from solid beech wood. Traditionally shaped ribs made from European spruce support the crown of the soundboard.

Bridges
The treble bridge is made from solid hard wood. The bass bridge is made from solid hard wood, with the top cap from beech wood. The bass bridge has a large foot bridge which enables to extend the length of bass strings. The top surfaces of bridge caps are graphitized.

The traditional construction of the bridges and used materials are comparable with other advanced grand pianos. Thanks to the foot bridge of bass bridge the soundboard can oscilate with bigger amplitude in low frequencies. The structure of the bridges shares in a good acoustic output in the whole tone range.

Scale
The strings are placed in agraffes with steel pins in bass and middle section and under the capo V bar in treble section. The grand piano is equiped with 35 front duplexes with stepped presure bars and with 35 rear duplexes with brass duplex frets. The duplexes begin on d2 tone. The flat strings are double hitched on the pins.

The structure using agraffes and duplexes is characteristic for advanced grand pianos. The duplexes enrich the tone colour.

Tuning pins
The tuning pins are made from nickeled steel, corrosion resistant.

Strings
The strings are made from high quality string wire. The longest bass string is 1156 mm.

Hammer heads
The hammers with hornbeam mouldings are made from high quality Japanese or German hammer felt. This felt makes the good tone properties and acoustic output of piano along with other factors.

Dampers
The dampers are made from hornbeam hard wood and special quality damper felt. The dampers are full comparable with the dampers of top quality grand pianos.

Action
The grand piano is equiped with standard grand piano action made from hard hornbeam wood. This action has standard double repetition spring. The wippen rail is made from special profiled aluminium rail. The hammer rail is made from solid beech wood.

The action has a good repetition. It enables to have full control of play dynamics and control of creating tones. Special profiled aluminium wippen rail ensures a good action regulation.

Keys
The keys are made from select tangential sawn European spruce resonance wood. The keys buttons are made from beech wood. White key tops and blacks are made from high quality acrilate. The keys are individually balanced. The keyboard is comparable with keyboards of other best quality pianos.

Key bed
The key bed is soft wood sendwich two side coated by plywood. Its thickness is 45 mm. The key bed is reiforced by bulky wooden rail from bellow. Sendwich structure with additional reinforcement makes the key bed high stable, ensures the action regulating stability and provides feeling of certitude to the player.

Pedals
The grand piano is eqiuped standardly with three brass pedals. The middle pedal has function of prolongerment. The construction, used materials and function of pedal mechanism of Weinbach grand pianos are comparable with pedal mechanisms of other top quality grand pianos.
